Not only picking, but also decided to partly savor the goods along the way. My morning stroll in the garden was not quite what I anticipated. I know puppy was the main instigator as she's hell bent on eating everything within sight both outside and inside. My sweetcorn was trampled and most of the corncobs on it had been pulled off and she had them in a pile where she was sitting when I walked out, shredded I may add. She really couldn't understand my displeasure when I walked out to see her handiwork. Trampled, yes, they had woken early, being a cooler time of the a.m. had decided to have a wild run through the yard, bringing everything down within their sight. Little darlings. Oh, must add, she ate the first lot of flowers I've been able to grow. Have never had much luck with flowers, seem to do better with vegies for some reason. After a couple of weeks of non-stop unbearable heat, their energy resources were recharged for long enough to do the damage. The rest of the time they had spent most of it just laying around in the house trying to find different places that might offer a cooler laying spot. So, another trip to the hardware store to get higher wire to go around whats left of the garden, before that also looks like their war zone. Don't you just love them???Wednesday, February 25, 2009
The Solitary Tomato
The photo with the rather luscious looking tomatoes is how I wanted my tomato bush to look. The other photo is what I eventually got from my tomato bush. I popped it next to the dog biscuit to compare the size of it, and as a gentle reminder to myself to always put them up high, the tomato bushes that is. Have decided I will try the upside down hanging baskets growing technique. One little tomato, after a couple of months of nurturing and talking to them daily to encourage their growth. We had a heatwave, and as a result I left the dog and puppy out the back to sleep through the night, as the heat inside was unbelievable. I think you are starting to understand the story behind solitary tomato. Yes, they had a tomato picking party.
